Research

Computer graphics has achieved great success with techniques inspired by physics, mechanics, material science and hardware. Our focus is design graphics: images designed for the people that use them, and images about the objects people design.

Graphics and Perception
Improving our understanding of how people see and act when using computer graphics systems, so we can design better imagery.

Projects:supra-threshold LOD, predicting visual fidelity, visual/temporal tradeoff, frame rate effects, peripheral LOD.

Adaptive Display
Improving image effectiveness by designing imagery that puts detail both when and where users need it most.

Projects: temporally adaptive rendering, interruptible rendering, simplification of massive models, Semisimp, RSimp.

Graphics About Design
Images of designed artifacts, starting with cities and buildings.

Graphics as Design
Designing new imagery and systems with techniques enabled by interactive computer graphics.

Projects:Histographs, TextPool, StorySpace, Cognitive Map Probe, CognitiveCubes, commodity tracking, driving assessment, phobia therapy, interactive predistortion.
